Here are some of the most peculiar building designs in the world.
1.) Bird’s Nest: China

The uniquely designed and structured Bird’s Nest or Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, China is one of the newly constructed stadiums in the world. It was designed for used in the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. It has a retractable roof giving the stadium the appearance of a “Bird’s Nest”. Construction of the stadium began in 2003 and was opened in 2008. This stadium is officially known as National Stadium.
2.) Agora: Spain

The Agora is a colorful and unusually designed structure in the City of Valencia, Spain. This multifunctional covered space is one of the structures located in the city’s Ciutat de les Arts I les Ciences complex. The 80 meter tall building with an area of 5,000 m² can accommodate 6,000 people. It was inaugurated in 2009 to host the Valencia Open 500 ATP tournament.

The BMW Welt which meansBMW World in English is a uniquely-designed multi-functional customer experience and exhibition facility of the BMW AG in the City of Munich, Germany.

This structure is designed to present the current products of BMW and be a distribution center for BMW cars. BMW Welt, which opened in 2007, is designed with an 80 kilowatt solar plant on its roof.
4.) Nationale Nenderlanden: Czech Republic

Nationale Nederlanden Building, which is nicknamed Dancing House, is a uniquely designed building in downtown Prague, the capital of Czech Republic. This weird-looking structure that resembles a pair of dancers and gives the illusion of a dancing house was completed in 1996. It was originally named Fred and Ginger and is also sometimes known as the “Drunk House”.
5.) Nakagin Capsule Tower: Japan

The NakaginCapsule Tower is another structure with peculiar design. This mixed-use residential and office tower is located in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. This unique building which was completed in 1972 is a rare built example of Japanese Metabolism. The building contains 140 prefabricated capsules which are each self-contained units. Each capsule measures 2.3 m × 3.8 m × 2.1 m and functions as a small living or office space. Amazingly, these capsules, which are replaceable, can be connected and combined to create larger spaces.
6.) Ray and Maria Strata Center: USA

The weird-looking Ray and Maria Strata Center is an academic complex with an area of 67,000 m2. It is owned by Massachusetts Institute of Technology and opened in 2004. Funds used for the creation of this uniquely designed building came from Ray and Maria Strata of MIT class of 1957. Other major funders are Bill Gates and Alexander Dreyfoos of MIT class of 1954 to whom the 2 towers of the buildings were named. It is also called Building 32.
7.) Walt Disney Concert Hall: USA

The Walt Disney Concert Hall, which is located at 111 South Grand Avenue in Los Angeles, California, is one of the most uniquely-designed structures in the world. It can accommodate 2,265 people and is home to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The building was designed by Frank Gehry and opened in 2003.
8.) Federation Square: Australia

Federation Square or Fed Square is an unusually-designed civic center and cultural precinct located in Melbourne, Australia. This mixed-used development with an area of 3.2 hectares is the second most popular tourist attraction in Victoria receiving more than 8.4 million tourists in 2009. Fed Square is the only landmark of Australia which was not opened by the Queen. She was not even invited during its unveiling.

AquaBuilding is a uniquely designed edifice in Chicago, USA. This 86-story mixed-use residential skyscraper is designed by a team led by a woman. Hence, Aqua Building is the world’s tallest to have a woman as lead architect.

Aqua, which is 262 m in height, was awarded the Emporis Skyscraper Award for 2009. The peculiar design of the building gives an illusion of flowing water.
